It seems lockdown has got everyone even more involved in their self-care and beauty regimes and I'm here for it. I've always been utterly obsessed with skincare, yes I am incredibly loyal to certain brands but I really do think it's all about mixing it up, depending on your skins needs that day or week. There are so many factors that can change how the skin looks or feels: hormones, diet, sleep, stress, weather, aircon! So it really depends on the week to be honest. I thought I'd write a blog post about 5 of the best skin serums right now, these are 5 I am using at the moment and I hope you find this useful. I am so happy with my skin right now! Also as we are in a heatwave, don't miss: 11 of the best SPFs for your face.

The great thing about skincare is you can mix it up, for me personally I will apply different targeted serums on different skin needs (eg, a serum on my blemish, a discolouration serum on my red areas then an all over serum for hydrating, followed by a moisturiser) you can layer it depending on your needs. Below are my favourites right now!

SkinCeuticals Phloretin CF - Yep, I can't pronounce it either but I can tell you it's a miracle serum and so many people have said this has totally changed their skin. It kind of goes on like a gel and feels so smooth as it goes into the face. It is not at all oily. I personally use a few pumps of this on a morning (I use the gel version) and then layer with anything else my skin may need that day. In science terms, it helps prevent free radical damage, diminishes the appearance of discolouration and improves skin tone and texture. It has 2% phloretin and 10% pure vitamin c. It's topical to provide advanced protection against environmental damage. In my words? It makes my skin feel bright, it's got vitamin C in it which is basically a hero brightening ingredient and it really does improve the skin tone, leading to a brighter complexion and my skin feels smooth too. It refines the skins texture too and apparently complements sunscreen well for enhanced protection, which we all need! Yes it's expensive but it's because it's got SUCh good ingredients in it and there are tests to back this up. Also, they test SkinCeuticals products in final packaging and have proven stable ingredients like their vitamin C remain effective for 36 months or 6 months after opening!

Good for: bright, smooth textured skin / How I use: a few plops on a morning.

Get it online here and here and here.

If you are hunting for vitamin C products but looking for something a little less expensive, Vitamin C Powerful Strength Line Reducing Concentrate is also a good option.

Kiehls Midnight Recovery Oil - This is the UK's no.1 luxury anti-ageing facial oil and I can confirm it is fantastic. It's an award winner baby! I first bought Kiehls Midnight Recovery Oil in 2012 and never looked back! I have been through SO many bottles of this, it's a hero product that works great alone and you can obviously layer it with other products too if you wish. Use it by itself and watch your skin drink it up, or you could add a drop into your moisturiser! The best way to describe Midnight Recovery Oil is imagine having 8 hours sleep in a bottle, the idea is, a few drops on your skin before bed and the oil replenishes the skin as you sleep, helping to supplement the natural overnight recovery process, so you wake up and skin looks more rested and restored. I never get enough sleep so it's really good for hiding the fatigue on my skin, it has lavender essential oil in it so I find it very calming before bed so it actually does help with my pre-bedtime anxieties/calming me. I feel like you wake up with fresher looking, more radiant skin AND it is a vegan formula that’s 99.8% naturally derived! To put on the skin, this doesn't feel oily but it definitely has that luxurious, wet feel and you literally watch your skin drink it right up. They currently have free shipping right now at Kiehls if you are wanting this (also promo code EMSHELDON on orders over £50 gets you 2x free skincare minis!)

Good for: Calming, natural product before bed to fake 8 hour sleep, you wake up and your skin looks radiant! It's a dream / How I use: A few drops on an evening.

SkinCeuticals H.A Powerful Corrective Intensifier - I used a bottle of this so quickly and I was fully influenced by Instagram to first get my hands on this product. So many girls swear by it and there's a reason for that. I personally find you can use this morning AND night, layer it up with any other product. It is so powerful for hydrating the skin. People swear by it for hydrating the skin and when I ran out I was literally gutted! It's designed to amplify the skins hyaluronic acid levels and improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. This, coupled with vitamin C and you are onto a brightening skincare winner.

Good for: instant plump to the skin, super hydrating and smooth / How I use it: Can be applied morning and night!

Neutrogena Hydro-Boost Super Charged Booster -  A small but mighty little pot of joy and perfect if you're looking to add hyaluronic acid into your skincare routine, without breaking the bank. I really like premium skincare but brands like Neutrogena create luxurious skincare, using premium products, just without the premium price tag as they are such huge companies they can do that. I can hand on heart say this really does make my skin glow. I talk about it a lot and it's the perfect little travel size skincare saviour. This little booster is great to use on a morning, it's full of vitamins and instantly makes my skin glow - I feel like it looks so nice under make up, plus it has Vitamin E and Hyaluronic Acid inside for bright skin. Good for:Hydrated, glowing skin / How I use it: Can be applied morning and night!

Elizabeth Arden Retinol Ceramide Capsules Line Erasing Night Serum - An amazing piece of advice I was given skincare wise years ago, was to start using anti-ageing products before you start ageing, aka, use it as a prevention. I think that's why I first found Kiehls Midnight Recovery Oil , it's meant to be amazing for anti-ageing. I personally think wrinkles are great, they mean you are living a long life but, I get people are skincare obsessed and want smooth, radiant skin. I have used Arden's Retinol capsules for so long now, after hearing retinol is the one for anti-ageing. These are perfect little capsules for travel and they're packed with so much goodness. Retinol is extremely sensitive to light and air so Elizabeth Arden put it in a special capsule and the retinol in these capsules is 76% more potent than un-encapsulated retinol, meaning you get potency on every application. On application to the skin, the product comes out lightweight and smooth, almost gel like I would say and it's designed to visibly diminish lines and wrinkles, improve skin texture and tone, radiance and clarity, minimise the look of pores and it's a non-drying formula too as Retinol can be drying. I hope my 60 year old self will thank me for this.

Good for: Anti-ageing, before bed application, smooth, wrinkle busting! Future proofing the skin How I use it: One capsule before bed.
