What Is Chez Rose?
Chez Rose is a modern French bistro located in Mayfair, London, created by celebrated chef Spencer Metzger in partnership with Jason and Irha Atherton. The restaurant opened in June 2026 on Pollen Street, occupying the former Little Social site. The concept draws heavily on Spencer's love of classical French cooking, developed during his 12 years at The Ritz, while embracing seasonality, generosity and relaxed hospitality.
The name itself is incredibly meaningful. Chez Rose is named after Spencer's late grandmother Rosemary, who played a huge role in shaping his love of food and family gatherings. The restaurant is intended as a tribute to her warmth, generosity and belief that some of life's best moments happen around a table.
Where Is Chez Rose?
Chez Rose
You'll find Chez Rose at 5 Pollen Street in Mayfair, one of London's most prestigious dining destinations. It's just a short walk from Oxford Circus and Bond Street stations, making it incredibly easy to reach whether you're visiting from elsewhere in London or travelling into the city.
The restaurant sits in the heart of a neighbourhood renowned for luxury shopping, five-star hotels and some of the capital's most exciting restaurants.
What Is The Inspiration Behind chez Rose?
This is perhaps my favourite thing about the restaurant.
Unlike many restaurant openings that focus solely on trends or concepts, chez Rose has genuine emotional roots and I adore that so much. Spencer has spoken openly about the influence his grandmother had on his life. Despite having very little materially, she was endlessly generous with her time, her cooking and her love. That reminds me so much of my own nanna and I am sure many people will identify with this and those are the values that have become the foundation of chez Rose.
The goal was never to create a flashy to-be-seen celebrity restaurant. Instead, Spencer wanted to build somewhere people could celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, family lunches and everyday moments worth remembering, just like the moments he remembers so fondly with his own grandmother.
In French, "chez" means "at the home of", and that feeling of warmth and belonging runs through every aspect of the restaurant.
What Is The Style Of Food At Chez Rose?
chez Rose is inspired by classic French bistro cooking but interpreted through Spencer's own experience and personality.
Rather than trying to recreate a traditional Parisian bistro exactly, the menu celebrates French techniques while showcasing exceptional seasonal ingredients from Britain and beyond and here of course, Spencer's 13 years at The Ritz shines through.
Expect:
- Classical French sauces
- Beautiful seafood
- Seasonal vegetables
- Exceptional meat dishes using the highest quality produce
- Traditional French desserts
- Daily changing specials that move with the seasons
- A carefully curated wine programme
- Sharing plates
The food feels luxurious but approachable, refined but comforting.
What's On The Chez Rose Menu?
One of the most exciting aspects of chez Rose is that the menu evolves with the seasons.
Dishes featured on opening menus have included:
- Orkney scallops with Café de Paris butter
- Steak tartare with pomme gaufrette
- Oeuf meurette
- White asparagus with hollandaise
- Grilled lobster with sauce chorron
- Cornish fish dishes
- Veal T-bone with mustard sauce
- Lamb with confit garlic
- Crêpes Suzette
- Chocolate soufflé for two
There are also daily specials designed around the very best produce available that day, creating a genuinely seasonal dining experience and actually, not many London restaurants are doing this. It's good to see a restaurant with sustainability and passion as a driving force for their menu. In a world where most places serve strict menus that rarely change, I love the flexbility of chez Rose, based on the best produce available that morning.
Is Chez Rose Fine Dining?
Not in the traditional sense.
If you've experienced Spencer's cooking at Row on 5, you'll know he is capable of producing world-class Michelin-starred food. However, chez Rose has a different purpose.
This is upscale dining rather than formal fine dining. The focus is on delicious food, excellent wine, relaxed service and creating an atmosphere where guests feel comfortable lingering over lunch or dinner.
Think Parisian elegance meets London warmth.
What Is The Restaurant Interior Like?
chez Rose is effortlessly chic.
The interiors combine white tablecloths, candlelight, beautiful detailing and a stylish bar area while avoiding the overly polished feeling that some luxury restaurants can have. There are also outdoor tables for warmer days, creating a wonderful European atmosphere in the heart of Mayfair. There is also a wonderful private dining area. I think this is one of the most romantic restaurants in London. If you're looking to go on a date night in London, chez Rose is the dream London date night spot.
The overall mood feels intimate, romantic and welcoming.
Who Is Spencer Metzger?
For those unfamiliar with his story, Spencer Metzger is one of Britain's most talented chefs.
He spent over a decade training at The Ritz under chef John Williams before winning the prestigious Roux Scholarship and later becoming Executive Chef at the two-Michelin-starred Row on 5. His partnership with Jason Atherton has already resulted in multiple awards, but chez Rose is his most personal project to date.
Does Chez Rose Have A Wine List?
Absolutely.
Wine plays a huge role in the chez Rose experience. Spencer has repeatedly highlighted the importance of generosity, hospitality and sharing great bottles around the table, and the wine programme reflects that philosophy. Guests can expect a carefully selected list that complements both classic French dishes and seasonal specials. If you're visiting London and looking for a genuinely good wine list, don't skip chez Rose restaurant.
Is Chez Rose Worth Visiting?
Without hesitation, yes.
Even if I remove the fact that Spencer is my boyfriend from the equation, what has been created here is genuinely special. London has plenty of beautiful restaurants, but very few have such a clear sense of identity and purpose.
chez Rose isn't trying to chase trends. It's not trying to reinvent dining. Instead, it's focused on something far more meaningful: exceptional food, warm hospitality, beautiful surroundings and creating memories around the table. It's rare to find a restaurant that's aesthetic, romantic but has genuinely good food too, all rolled into one - and, in the heart of central London.
How Do You Book Chez Rose?
Reservations can be made directly through the Chez Rose website. Given the excitement surrounding the opening and Spencer's reputation within the industry, booking ahead is highly recommended, particularly for weekend dinners and special occasions.
