Affiliate throughout: If you’ve followed me for a while, you’ll know that I am always on the hunt for skincare that makes my skin look and feel better. I love discovering new beauty brands, but when I find a skincare range that genuinely impresses me, I want to shout about it!
And that is exactly what has happened with Kate Somerville skincare.
Kate Somerville is actually a relatively new skincare brand to me, which makes this review even more exciting because I’ve now been using several products from the range for several weeks and I am genuinely loving what they are doing for my skin.
I’ve been using the Kate Somerville Wrinkle Warrior 2-in-1 Plumping Serum + Moisturiser, the HydraKate Power Plumping Primer and the KateCeuticals SuperCell Rejuvenation Serum, and between them they have become a really lovely combination for hydrated, plumper, smoother-looking skin.
As I’m getting older, I’m much more interested in skin that looks healthy, hydrated, fresh and glowing rather than skincare promising to magically erase every line on my face. I want my skin to look like my skin, just at its absolute best.
And these products really fit into that mindset.

What is Kate Somerville skincare?
If Kate Somerville is a new brand to you too, let me introduce you!
Kate Somerville is a skincare brand founded by esthetician Kate Somerville, with its roots in professional skin treatments and the Kate Somerville Skin Clinic in Los Angeles.
Kate opened her clinic in West Hollywood in 2004, bringing together professional skin treatments, skincare expertise and a very glamorous Hollywood aesthetic. The brand says its skincare has been shaped by more than 20 years of clinic experience and hundreds of thousands of treatments.
What I particularly like about the brand is that it doesn't feel like skincare created simply to look pretty on your bathroom shelf. There is a very clear clinic-inspired, results-driven approach behind the formulas.
Kate's own story is also interesting. She originally trained as an esthetician after struggling with eczema and went on to work in medical skin treatments before opening her own clinic. One of the brand's first cult products, ExfoliKate, was created after a celebrity client wanted to take Kate's professional facial treatment with her while travelling.
So there is a real connection between the treatments offered in the clinic and the products designed to be used at home.
And after several weeks of using the range, I can absolutely see why the brand has developed such a following.
Kate Somerville Wrinkle Warrior 2-in-1 Plumping Serum + Moisturiser
Let's start with the product that has probably surprised me the most: Wrinkle Warrior.
The name definitely gives away what this one is all about!
It is designed as a multitasking serum, moisturiser and makeup primer in one, which immediately appealed to me because I love a skincare product that can do more than one job.
The texture is lightweight and absorbs beautifully, leaving my skin feeling hydrated and smooth rather than greasy or overloaded.
The formula contains three types of hyaluronic acid alongside amino acids, glucosamine and the brand's biotechnology-activated SugarCopper complex. Kate Somerville says the product is designed to hydrate, improve the appearance of firmness and elasticity and visibly reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles.
And honestly, I love the finish.
It gives my skin that lovely plumped, soft-focus, smoother-looking appearance that I want from an everyday moisturiser.
What does Kate Somerville Wrinkle Warrior do?
Wrinkle Warrior is designed to:
- Hydrate the skin
- Give the skin a plumper appearance
- Smooth the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
- Improve the appearance of firmness and elasticity
- Leave a soft, satiny finish
- Work as a makeup primer
Kate Somerville describes it as a 3-in-1 product because it works as a serum, moisturiser and primer.
Is Wrinkle Warrior a serum or a moisturiser?
Both!
That's the clever thing about it.
You can use Wrinkle Warrior as your serum and moisturiser step rather than layering multiple products on top of one another.
I particularly love this when I want a slightly more streamlined skincare routine.
And because it leaves the skin feeling smooth and silky, it also works beautifully underneath makeup.
Is Wrinkle Warrior good for mature skin?
I think it is a particularly lovely option if your skin is becoming drier or looking less plump as you get older.
As we age, hydration becomes increasingly important for how the skin looks, and ingredients such as hyaluronic acid can help attract and retain water in the skin.
For me, the appeal isn't about pretending that a skincare product can literally remove ageing. It's about making my skin look hydrated, smoother, fresher and more youthful-looking.
That's a much more realistic goal, and one I really notice with this product.
Can you use Wrinkle Warrior under makeup?
Yes and this is one of my favourite ways to use Wrinkle Warrior.
Kate Somerville actually describes it as a makeup primer as well as a serum and moisturiser. The brand recommends applying a thin layer to the face and neck, and it can also be used as a primer before makeup.
I love that slightly silky finish underneath foundation because it gives my skin a much more hydrated-looking base.
HydraKate Power Plumping Primer
Next up is HydraKate Power Plumping Primer, and this one is all about hydration.
If your skin ever gets that slightly tight, dull, dehydrated feeling, particularly when the weather changes or you've been travelling (this is me all over), this is the product I'd look at.
Despite the word Primer in the name, this isn't simply a traditional makeup primer.
It's described by Kate Somerville as a multi-action plumping hydration serum, designed to give the skin instant and longer-lasting hydration.
The formula contains seven different sizes of hyaluronic acid, alongside Aquaport Technology and a Cica Barrier Complex containing Centella Asiatica and red algae extracts.
And the finish is gorgeous.
My skin feels bouncy and comfortable after using it, and it gives that lovely freshly hydrated, luminous look.
What does HydraKate Power Plumping Primer do?
It is designed to:
- Hydrate dehydrated skin
- Make skin look plumper
- Smooth the appearance of fine lines
- Improve the look of radiance
- Help calm visible redness
- Prepare the skin for makeup
The brand's independent clinical testing reported immediately plumper, smoother and more radiant-looking skin, with those improvements also reported after two and four weeks.
Is HydraKate Power Plumping Primer actually a serum?
Yes.
This is another reason I think the name can be slightly confusing.
Although it contains Primer in the name, Kate Somerville classifies it as a plumping hydration serum.
You can use it on its own after cleansing or underneath your SPF and makeup.
Can you use HydraKate underneath foundation?
Absolutely.
This is actually one of the reasons I love it.
It gives the skin that lovely hydrated base without feeling like you've put a thick layer of primer on.
Kate Somerville's testing found that 97% of participants reported that the product prepped and primed skin for makeup that lasted after four weeks of use.
For me, it's particularly nice when I want my makeup to look fresh rather than overly matte.
KateCeuticals SuperCell Rejuvenation Serum
And then we have the big treatment product: KateCeuticals SuperCell Rejuvenation Serum.
This is the one that feels particularly high-tech to me.
Kate Somerville describes it as a clinical-grade skin rejuvenation serum, formulated with a vegan stem cell complex, active peptide technology and plant-derived squalane.
The serum is designed to target the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines and skin damage while supporting a smoother, firmer and more radiant-looking complexion.
It is also the product in this trio that feels most like a proper treatment rather than simply a moisturising step.
What is SuperCell Rejuvenation Serum?
SuperCell is a concentrated anti-ageing and skin-rejuvenating serum designed to improve the appearance of:
- Fine lines
- Wrinkles
- Loss of firmness
- Dullness
- Skin damage
- Uneven-looking texture
The formula uses a vegan stem cell complex derived from the Nicotiana Benthamiana plant, alongside an active peptide complex and plant-derived squalane.
What are the benefits of SuperCell Rejuvenation Serum?
According to Kate Somerville's independent clinical study, 90% of women reported that their skin felt smoother, soothed, softer and more supple, while 90% reported that the formula left skin feeling healthier and firmer. 81% reported improved skin resilience. The study involved 30 women aged 35–65.
Obviously, everyone's skin is different, but after using it myself for several weeks, I can understand why this is one of the products that caught my attention.
My skin looks smoother, more hydrated and generally healthier, which is exactly what I want from an anti-ageing serum.
How do you use SuperCell Rejuvenation Serum?
Kate Somerville recommends applying a thin layer to clean, dry skin on the face, neck and décolleté and gently massaging it in. It can be used morning and evening.
The product also comes with a roller applicator, which gives the application a lovely cooling, massage-like feel.
Personally, I really enjoy this part because skincare should feel like a little ritual rather than another job on my to-do list!
Can you use Kate Somerville Wrinkle Warrior, HydraKate and SuperCell together?
Yes, and this is actually how I've been enjoying the range.
My routine has been about hydration, plumping and supporting healthy-looking skin, rather than throwing ten different active ingredients at my face.
I'd use:
1. Cleanse
Start with clean skin.
2. SuperCell Rejuvenation Serum
This is my targeted treatment step.
3. HydraKate Power Plumping Primer
This gives me that extra hydration and plumping effect.
This can then act as my moisturiser and, during the day, as a beautiful makeup-prepping step.
5. SPF
And, as always, SPF is the final step in my morning skincare routine.
You don't necessarily need to use all three every single time. One of the things I like about the range is that you can adapt it depending on what your skin needs.
Is Kate Somerville good for ageing skin?
For me, yes particularly if what you're looking for is hydration, plumping, smoothing and healthier-looking skin.
Kate Somerville has a number of different collections, so it's not simply an anti-ageing brand. There are products for hydration, sensitive skin, blemishes, uneven texture, dullness and other skin concerns too.
But the three products I've been using are particularly well suited to the things I want from skincare now.
I don't want my skin to look stripped back or overly matte. I want it to look glowy, plump, smooth and healthy.
Is Kate Somerville worth the money?
Kate Somerville is definitely a premium skincare brand, so these aren't impulse buys for everyone.
At the time of writing, the UK prices are £98 for Wrinkle Warrior 30ml, £74 for HydraKate Power Plumping Primer 30ml and £84 for KateCeuticals SuperCell Rejuvenation Serum 30ml.
For me, the question isn't simply is this expensive?
It's whether I can see and feel a difference in my skin and after several weeks of using these products, I truly can.
I also like the fact that the products feel purposeful. I'm not using three versions of basically the same moisturiser. Each one has a particular job.
My Kate Somerville skincare review
So, what do I actually think?
I really, really like this range.
And I think part of the reason I've enjoyed it so much is that Kate Somerville is a completely new skincare brand to me.
Sometimes you get stuck using the same brands because you know they work, and then something new comes along and reminds you just how much fun it is to experiment with skincare.
The Wrinkle Warrior 2-in-1 Plumping Serum + Moisturiser is probably the easiest one to slot into an everyday routine because it does so much in one product.
The HydraKate Power Plumping Primer is the one I reach for when I want that extra hit of hydration and that lovely bouncy, luminous skin finish.
And the KateCeuticals SuperCell Rejuvenation Serum feels like the treatment step, the product I use when I really want to concentrate on smoothing, firmness and rejuvenation.
After several weeks, my overall impression is that my skin looks plumper, smoother, more hydrated and healthier, and I've genuinely found myself reaching for these products again and again.
For a brand that was new to me, that is quite a big compliment.
