I'm going to tell you everything you need to know about Amazon Prime, how it works, whether Amazon Prime is worth it, what you can actually buy on Amazon and, most importantly, the kinds of things I'm going to be looking out for during Prime Big Deal Days.
And because we're heading into that precious pre-Christmas shopping window, I'm particularly excited. There are only a couple of main paydays left for many of us before Christmas, so October is such a good time to start ticking those presents off the list rather than suddenly realising in December that you've got EVERYTHING left to buy.
From fashion and beauty to handbags, jewellery, sportswear, homeware, kitchen gadgets, travel essentials, watches and phones, Amazon really has become a destination for so much more than those random parcels arriving at your door!
So, if you're wondering what is Amazon Prime, is Amazon Prime worth it, what should I buy on Amazon Prime Day and how do I find the best Amazon Prime deals? I've got you. Open for the best top Amazon Prime Day Deals.

What is Amazon Prime?
Let's start with the obvious question: what actually is Amazon Prime?
Amazon Prime is Amazon's subscription membership which gives you access to a whole host of shopping, delivery and entertainment benefits.
For me, the biggest benefit is simply convenience. I use Amazon for so many things and knowing that I can order something and have it arrive quickly is incredibly useful when life is busy.
Prime members in the UK get access to fast delivery on millions of eligible items, exclusive deals and shopping events such as Prime Big Deal Days, as well as benefits including Prime Video, Amazon Music, Prime Reading, Amazon Photos and gaming benefits.
And then there are the big shopping events. Let's get in to what I think you should be buying:
When is Amazon Prime Day 2026?
Amazon Prime Big Deal Days 2026 takes place on Tuesday 6th and Wednesday 7th October 2026.
It is a 48-hour Prime member shopping event, starting at 12:01am BST on 6th October and running until 11:59pm on 7th October.
So yes, get your wishlist ready!
Amazon says there will be deals across more than 35 categories, including fashion, beauty, home, kitchen, electronics, toys and plenty more. There are also early deals already appearing ahead of the main event.
Apparel & Fashion
Amazon fashion has come such a long way and this is an area I genuinely think people overlook.
I would be looking for:
- Cashmere jumpers
- Classic shirts
- Dresses
- Underwear
Shoes
Another category worth checking is footwear.
Think:
- Trainers
- Running shoes
- Walking shoes
- Boots
- Slippers
Handbags & Accessories
- Crossbody bags
- Tote bags
- Sunglasses
- Travel accessories
Sports & Fitness
If you're shopping for someone who loves their gym, running or fitness, Amazon can be a goldmine.
I'd be searching for:
- Running trainers
- Resistance bands
- Dumbbells
- Yoga mats
- Water bottles
- Gym bags
- Sports watches
- Fitness trackers
- Exercise headphones
Beauty
- Hairdryers
- Hair straighteners
- Hot brushes
- Shampoo and conditioner
- Skincare
- SPF
- Electric toothbrushes
- Facial cleansing devices
Home
- Candles
- Cushions
- Throws
- Storage baskets
- Bedding
- Towels
- Cleaning gadgets
- Home security cameras
- Doorbells
- Vacuum cleaners
Kitchen & Dining
- Air fryers
- Coffee machines
- Blenders
- Kettles
- Toasters
- Travel mugs
10. Watches
- Fitness watches
- Garmin watches
- Apple Watch
- Samsung watches
Mobile Phones & Technology
- iPhones
- Samsung Galaxy phones
- Google Pixel phones
- Mobile phone accessories
- AirPods
- Headphones
- Bluetooth speakers
- Kindles
- Echo devices
- Chargers
- Power banks
Amazon has also highlighted devices, Kindle and other technology among the early deals ahead of Prime Big Deal Days.
Tech can be one of the most exciting Prime Day categories because even a relatively small percentage discount on a high-value item can mean a decent saving.
Is Amazon Prime Day the same as Amazon Prime Big Deal Days?
Essentially, think of it as another major Prime shopping event.
Amazon's big summer event was called Prime Day, while the October event is officially called Prime Big Deal Days.
But I know plenty of us will simply call it October Prime Day!
The important thing is that the October event is specifically designed as a huge two-day Prime-member shopping event and, for me, the timing makes it particularly interesting because it lands right at the beginning of the Christmas shopping season.
How much does Amazon Prime cost in the UK?
At the moment, Amazon Prime costs £8.99 per month or £95 per year in the UK after the free trial.
If you're a student or an eligible young adult aged 18–24, there are discounted membership options available too.
I'd definitely work out how much you use Amazon before choosing monthly or annual membership.
Can I get Amazon Prime for free?
Potentially, yes!
Eligible new customers can currently take advantage of a 30-day free trial.
This is particularly worth knowing if you've never had Prime before and want to see whether you actually use the service.
Just remember to check the terms of the trial and cancellation date so you know what happens when your trial ends.
Is Amazon Prime worth it?
For me, yes.
But it depends entirely on how much you use Amazon.
If you order regularly, use Prime delivery, watch Prime Video, listen to Amazon Music or enjoy the other Prime benefits, it can be very easy to justify the membership.
I personally think the delivery alone can be incredibly useful, but the real value comes from using several of the benefits rather than joining simply because you want one parcel delivered quickly.
Do I need Amazon Prime to shop on Amazon?
No.
You can shop on Amazon without being a Prime member.
However, many of the special Prime Big Deal Days discounts are exclusive to Prime members, so if you're planning to shop the event, you'll need an eligible Prime membership to access those deals.
How do I find the best Amazon Prime Day deals?
This is probably the question I get asked most.
My advice is:
Don't just shop because something says 40% off.
Make a list beforehand.
Think about what you actually need.
Start your Christmas list.
Look at products you've already been considering.
Read reviews.
Check the seller.
Check the delivery date.
Look at the product specifications.
And most importantly, check the price history where possible so that you know you're looking at a genuinely good deal rather than simply being tempted by a large percentage reduction.
Amazon says Prime members can also set deal alerts for specific products or categories ahead of the event, which is a really useful feature if you already have something particular in mind.
Should I start Christmas shopping on Amazon Prime Day?
YES!
Honestly, this is probably my biggest reason for getting excited about the October event.
We're in that lovely sweet spot where Christmas is close enough that you can start shopping but far enough away that you don't have the panic of December.
I would make a Christmas list now and divide it into:
Family
Friends
Stocking fillers
Secret Santa
Beauty gifts
Tech gifts
Gifts for him
Gifts for her
Travel gifts
Home gifts
Then use Prime Big Deal Days to start ticking things off.
Imagine getting half of your Christmas shopping done in October and then being able to enjoy December instead of frantically ordering presents!
Is everything cheaper during Amazon Prime Big Deal Days?
No, and this is really important.
Don't assume that every product on Amazon will suddenly be at its lowest ever price.
Amazon has millions of products and Prime Big Deal Days features a huge number of deals, but I still recommend doing your homework.
If you know what you want, search for the product before the event, note the normal price and then compare it when the sale goes live.
That way you're shopping intelligently rather than simply seeing a red discount label and pressing buy!
Are Amazon Prime Day deals genuine?
Amazon Prime Big Deal Days is an official Amazon shopping event, but as with any huge online marketplace, I always recommend checking who you're buying from.
Look at:
- Seller ratings
- Customer reviews
- Product reviews
- Product photographs
- Return information
- Delivery information
- Warranty information
- Whether the item is sold by Amazon or another seller
I've always found customer reviews particularly useful when shopping on Amazon.
My Amazon Prime shopping rules
If you're planning to shop Prime Big Deal Days, these are my golden rules:
1. Make a list before you shop.
2. Start Christmas shopping early.
3. Don't buy something simply because it is discounted.
4. Read the reviews.
5. Check the seller.
6. Check sizing carefully for fashion.
7. Compare prices.
8. Think about whether you'll actually use it.
9. Look for gifts as well as things for yourself.
10. If it's a big purchase, do your research before Prime Day starts.
And perhaps most importantly...
Don't forget about the little things.
Some of my favourite Amazon purchases aren't the huge expensive ones at all. They're the clever little products that solve a problem, make life easier or make a lovely gift.
Is Amazon Prime worth it in 2026?
For me, absolutely.
I use Amazon for everything from fashion and beauty to homeware, travel essentials, technology and those random things I suddenly realise I need.
The combination of fast delivery, exclusive discounts, Prime Big Deal Days, Prime Video and the other membership benefits makes Prime something I genuinely get a lot of use out of.
And with Amazon Prime Big Deal Days taking place on 6th and 7th October 2026, I think this is the perfect moment to have a little look at what is available, especially if you're starting your Christmas shopping.
I'll be looking for those really good buys, the things I'd genuinely recommend rather than simply buying something because it's on sale, and of course I'll be keeping a particularly close eye on fashion, shoes, handbags, accessories, sports, jewellery, beauty, home, kitchen, dining, travel, luggage, watches and tech.
So if you love Amazon as much as I do, get your wishlists ready, make that Christmas list, have your eye on the things you've been wanting and get ready for Amazon Prime Big Deal Days 2026.
Because if there was ever a good time to get ahead on Christmas shopping while hopefully saving some money along the way, Amazon Prime's 6th and 7th October shopping event is it!
Lots of love,
Em x
