Memo Paris Darling Point Perfume Review

Memo Paris Darling Point

Affiliate throughout: There are some perfume brands that I like, and then there are perfume brands that I have a real thing for. Memo Paris is definitely one of the latter.

I've worn a few Memo Paris fragrances over the years and there's something about the brand that always draws me back in. Their perfumes never feel like they're simply trying to smell 'nice'. They feel like they've been created to take you somewhere.

I want perfume to make me feel something.

So when I started wearing the new Memo Paris Darling Point Eau de Parfum, I knew I wanted to properly test it rather than give you a quick first impression.

I've been wearing it, letting it develop on my skin and seeing when I naturally reach for it and I have to say, I really, really love this one.

So, if you're searching for a Memo Paris Darling Point review, wondering what Memo Paris Darling Point smells like, what the fragrance notes are, how long it lasts, whether it's feminine or unisex, whether it's worth the money and where the inspiration comes from, I'm going to tell you everything you need to know.

Memo Paris Darling Point

What is Memo Paris?

Before I tell you about Darling Point, I think it's worth talking about Memo Paris as a brand, because it's actually a huge part of why I love their fragrances.

Memo Paris was founded in Paris in 2007 by Clara Molloy and her husband John. The whole philosophy behind the house is based around travel, memories, destinations and emotion. Memo describes its fragrances as 'Travel Notes' essentially olfactory memories of places around the world which I think his why I love this brand so much as it supports the absolute wanderlust I was born with.

The name Memo itself is connected to memory, souvenirs and sillage, with the brand's motto being 'The Journey is the destination'.

Every fragrance feels like it has a destination attached to it and every Memo Paris fragrance creates an entire world around it.

The bottles are beautiful, the artwork is beautiful and, most importantly, the fragrances themselves feel imaginative.

I've previously worn and loved Memo Paris Odéon and Memo Paris Abu Dhabi, so I was particularly excited to see what Darling Point would be like.

And honestly, it's very different.

What is Memo Paris Darling Point?

Memo Paris Darling Point Eau de Parfum is a new fragrance inspired by Darling Point, a neighbourhood on the shores of Sydney Harbour overlooking the Sydney Opera House.

The fragrance takes inspiration from this Australian setting and builds the scent around sweet pear, luminous orange blossom and rose absolute, with a warmer base of moss, cashmere wood and praline.

And I think the Sydney connection makes so much sense once you smell it.

It has this feeling of sunshine, water, flowers and something deliciously warm underneath.

It's not a stereotypically tropical fragrance.

It's much more sophisticated than that.

Memo Paris Darling Point

What does Memo Paris Darling Point smell like?

This is probably the question I would ask first too.

Darling Point smells fruity, floral, softly sweet, warm and elegant.

The first thing I notice is the pear.

But this isn't a sharp, artificial pear.

It's juicy and beautifully rounded, with apple and cinnamon giving the opening a little more interest.

Then the floral heart starts to appear.

You've got jasmine absolute, orange blossom, saffron and rose absolute, which gives the fragrance a really interesting combination of brightness, softness and warmth.

And then, as it settles, you get moss, cashmere wood and praline underneath.

That base is what stops it becoming simply another pretty fruity floral.

It gives it depth.

For me, it's one of those perfumes where you spray it and think ooh, that's lovely, but then you keep catching little wafts of it throughout the day and discovering something slightly different each time.  I find myself actively smelling it all the time to see what the next note is I can smell.

And that's one of my favourite things about Memo Paris.

What are the notes in Memo Paris Darling Point?

The official fragrance notes are:

Top notes:

  • Cinnamon
  • Sweet pear
  • Apple

Heart notes:

  • Jasmine absolute
  • Bright orange blossom
  • Saffron
  • Rose absolute

Base notes:

  • Moss
  • Cashmere wood
  • Praline

The main signature notes are sweet pear, bright orange blossom and rose absolute.

And if you love fruity-floral perfumes but don't want something that feels overly sugary or youthful, I think this combination is really clever, it's a sweet grown up fragrance.

Memo Paris Darling Point

Is Memo Paris Darling Point a sweet perfume?

Yes but I wouldn't describe it as too sweet.

The pear and praline definitely give it sweetness, but the floral notes, saffron, moss and woods stop it becoming sickly.

For me, it's a polished sweetness.

Think juicy pear rather than pear sweets.

Think soft praline rather than a full-on dessert.

Is Memo Paris Darling Point a floral perfume?

Yes, but it's not what I'd call a traditional floral perfume.

The orange blossom and rose are definitely noticeable, along with jasmine, but they're woven through the fruity and woody elements.

If you're someone who normally thinks I'm not really a floral perfume person, I would still give this one a try.

It's much more complex than simply smelling like flowers.

Is Memo Paris Darling Point fruity?

Definitely.

The pear and apple make the opening feel fresh, juicy and slightly luminous.

But again, the fruit isn't overpowering.

This isn't a teenage fruity body spray.

It's a luxury niche fragrance where the fruit is one part of a much bigger composition.

Is Memo Paris Darling Point unisex?

Yes.

Memo Paris fragrances are created to be worn by whoever loves them rather than being restricted by traditional men's and women's fragrance categories.  My boyfriend and I both love this one and share it.

And Darling Point is officially presented within that same Memo Paris approach.

Personally, I think smells gorgeous on both men and women.

On my skin, I find it feminine and elegant, but the moss, woods and saffron give it enough depth that I absolutely love it on my boyfriend.

As always with perfume, skin chemistry is everything.

Is Memo Paris Darling Point a strong perfume?

I'd describe it as noticeable and sophisticated rather than overpowering.

This isn't the sort of fragrance that walks into the room before you do.

And I actually love that.

I want people to notice my perfume when they're close to me rather than feeling like I've filled an entire restaurant with it!

Darling Point has enough presence to feel luxurious, but it doesn't feel aggressive.

How long does Memo Paris Darling Point last?

I've been really impressed with the longevity.

As with every fragrance, how long it lasts will depend on your skin, how much you apply and where you spray it, but I find Darling Point has very good staying power.

The thing I particularly like is how it evolves.

You don't get the same smell from the first spray right through to the evening.

The pear and apple are much more noticeable initially, then the floral heart develops and eventually you get that softer mossy, woody, praline base.

That evolution is what makes a perfume feel expensive to me.

Does Memo Paris Darling Point have good sillage?

Yes, but I'd call it elegant sillage.

You get those lovely little moments where you move your arm or your hair and suddenly catch the perfume again.

I much prefer that to something that is incredibly loud from the first spray.

Is Memo Paris Darling Point good for everyday wear?

Absolutely.

This is one of the things I've particularly loved about it.

It's luxurious enough that I don't feel like I'm wasting it by wearing it during the day, but special enough that I would happily wear it for dinner, an event or an evening out.

It's one of those fragrances that can become part of your everyday identity.

And I think that's the ultimate compliment for a perfume.

Can you wear Memo Paris Darling Point in summer?

Yes.

The pear, apple and orange blossom make it feel bright and fresh enough for warmer weather.

I can particularly imagine wearing this on a sunny summer's day, especially somewhere warm.

But because of the praline, cashmere wood, moss and saffron, it also has enough depth to work beautifully when the temperature drops.

So I wouldn't put this firmly into a 'summer only' category.

Is Memo Paris Darling Point good for autumn and winter?

Also yes.

The cinnamon, saffron, praline and cashmere wood give it a lovely warmth.

For me, that makes it incredibly versatile.

It's one of those fragrances that changes depending on the environment you're wearing it in, which I love.

Is Memo Paris Darling Point a day or night fragrance?

Both.

Memo Paris actually gives it a day/night rating of 3/4, which I think is a good reflection of how versatile it is.

During the day, I find the fruity and floral elements really shine.

In the evening, the warmer base becomes more noticeable and it feels a little more sensual.

When I go out for dinner this is absolutely one I've been reaching for.

What perfume is similar to Memo Paris Darling Point?

This is a difficult one because I think Darling Point has its own personality.

If you like fruity-floral perfumes with a luxurious, niche feel, you'll probably understand the appeal.

But I wouldn't buy it expecting it to smell like another popular designer perfume.

That's part of the reason I love Memo Paris, they're very individual.

Their fragrances tend to have a distinctive identity rather than smelling like variations of everything else on the perfume counter.

Who is Memo Paris Darling Point for?

I'd recommend it if you:

  • Love luxury niche fragrance
  • Like pear and fruity notes
  • Enjoy sophisticated floral perfumes
  • Like a little sweetness but don't want an overly sugary scent
  • Love orange blossom and rose
  • Want something distinctive rather than mainstream
  • Like perfumes that develop throughout the day
  • Love fragrances with a travel story behind them

If you're someone who only likes very fresh citrus or extremely clean skin scents, this may feel warmer and sweeter than your usual fragrance.

But if you like a fruity floral with warmth and depth, definitely put it on your list.

Is Memo Paris a luxury fragrance brand?

Yes.

Memo Paris is a Parisian niche perfume house, founded in 2007, and its fragrances are positioned firmly within luxury perfumery. The house focuses on high-quality materials, artistic storytelling and destination-inspired compositions.

One interesting thing I discovered while researching this is that Memo Paris exclusively creates Eau de Parfum, rather than Eau de Toilette. The brand says this is part of its identity and reflects its focus on luxury, authenticity and storytelling.

Why is Memo Paris so expensive?

This is something people understandably search before investing in a niche fragrance.

You're paying for much more than the smell.

Memo Paris puts a huge amount of emphasis on the creative concept behind each fragrance, the perfumers, the ingredients, the artwork, the bottle and the overall sensory experience.

The brand also works with established perfumers and gives them significant creative freedom.

And honestly, that's what I notice when I wear Memo.

It feels considered.

It doesn't feel like a fragrance that was created simply because a particular note was trending.

Is Memo Paris worth the money?

For me, yes.

Obviously fragrance is incredibly personal, and £££ spent on a perfume you don't love isn't money well spent.

But if you're someone who appreciates niche perfume, unusual combinations and fragrances that feel genuinely different, I think Memo Paris is absolutely worth exploring.

I've already worn other Memo Paris fragrances and loved them, so I know I'm naturally drawn to the house.

Darling Point hasn't changed that.

If anything, it's made me even more interested in discovering what they do next.

Is Memo Paris Darling Point worth buying?

For me, yes.

If you already know and love Memo Paris, I think Darling Point is a really interesting addition to the collection because it feels fresh and different without losing that unmistakable Memo Paris sense of storytelling.

If you've never tried Memo Paris before, I would definitely recommend sampling it before committing to the full bottle.

And that's actually really easy to do because Memo Paris offers a perfume trial service, including a 1.5ml Darling Point sample, so you can wear it on your own skin before making the investment.

I always think that's the best way to buy an expensive perfume anyway.

Is Memo Paris Darling Point a good gift?

I think it would make a gorgeous luxury fragrance gift.

The bottle is beautiful, the fragrance feels special and the whole Memo Paris experience feels much more considered than simply picking up a perfume from a department store shelf.

It's also the sort of fragrance that feels like a present rather than just a practical purchase.

What does the Memo Paris Darling Point bottle look like?

The bottle is absolutely gorgeous.

It's a pale, softly coloured bottle with a gold-toned cap and an illustrated design inspired by the Darling Point story.

Like the rest of the Memo Paris collection, it feels almost like a piece of artwork.

And I love perfume bottles that you actually want to leave out rather than hide away in a cupboard.

Is Memo Paris Darling Point vegan?

Memo Paris says that the vast majority of its fragrances are vegan, although some fragrances contain non-vegan ingredients. The brand recommends checking the individual fragrance if this is important to you.

Is Memo Paris cruelty-free?

Memo Paris says that its products and ingredients are not tested on animals and that it follows current EU regulations.

Where can you buy Memo Paris Darling Point?

Darling Point is available directly from Memo Paris, including 30ml and 75ml formats, and the brand also offers a sample so you can try the fragrance before committing to a full-size bottle.

Memo Paris also has a selective distribution policy, with fragrances available through selected high-end department stores, specialist perfumeries and other authorised retailers.

My final thoughts on Memo Paris Darling Point

After wearing Memo Paris Darling Point properly, I can honestly say this is another Memo Paris fragrance that has completely won me over.

I love the juicy pear and apple at the beginning, the beautiful orange blossom and rose through the heart and then that gorgeous combination of cashmere wood, moss and praline as it settles.

But more than the individual notes, I love the feeling of it.

It feels like sunshine over Sydney Harbour. It's polished without being stuffy, feminine without being overly girly, sweet without becoming sickly and luxurious without screaming for attention.

And that's exactly what I want from perfume.

I've been a fan of Memo Paris for a while now and Darling Point has absolutely earned its place in my fragrance wardrobe. It's the kind of perfume I find myself reaching for when I want to feel effortlessly put together and every time I catch that little pear, orange blossom and soft praline trail, I'm reminded why I love this brand so much.

Memo Paris Darling Point isn't just another perfume to me. It's another little memory in a bottle and I have a feeling I'll be wearing it for a very long time.

Lots of love, Em x
