Beauty Taboos, Confidence, Fixodent, Saving Aslan; Let's Talk!

gaining confidence

Hello! So today is a bit of a different one from me but I was excited to be asked to work with Fixodent recently on this campaign purely because it allowed me to discuss a few beauty taboos with you and also it gave me another chance to talk to you about confidence. I am a big believer in not letting anything stop you from achieving, working hard, living life to the fullest and just being happy really which is basically the key to life; happiness! I know that a lot of things really can affect our confidence so today I'm going to discuss this with you a lil bit because everyone deserves to feel confident and happy.

First, make sure you watch the below and find out about the campaign/see me discuss a few beauty taboos otherwise this post won't really make sense! (Pretty please click here to subscribe too!)

So there we have it, I completely agree that nothing should ever stop you from 'biting life' and therefore, getting the most out of this wonderful and often crazy world. Whilst the world we live in can be pretty scary and dangerous sometimes, it can also be breathtaking which is why I think it's important to live life to the fullest and not let anything or anyone hold you back. I let so much hold me back when I was younger, mainly the fact that I just had zero confidence. Whether it was my anxiety of fires breaking out in big buildings (yep, seriously, I went through a phase of not being able to go into big buildings because I 100% thought there would be a fire whilst I was in there) or me not being able to eat in front of people, let alone talk to people, because of my teeth, or the fact that I couldn't stand to walk past people because I felt like people were judging the way I was walking. I was like a little unconfident figure and it was awful. Little things which actually seem like really big things, can really hold us back and that makes me sad because life truly is for living.

Life really is what you make of it as cliche as that sounds, it's true. We only live once after all and sometimes, little things or big things too, can ruin our confidence, as mentioned in the video, I had zero confidence when I was younger due to my teeth, due to an awful spot which I had to have burnt off, due to rubbish hair extensions which made me go bald and so much more that I didn't mention (I could have rambled for ages) but these things which seem like tiny things now honestly made me feel disgusting for a really long time. Not only those things, but negative comments from not-so-nice people added to the mix. In a world where literally everyone and everything can be airbrushed, photoshopped, filtered - it's easy to judge ourselves and not feel good enough but that's purely based on looks when life is about way more than how someone looks - you can't filter someones personality and it's personality that really shines through.

People can be awful and really bad things can happen but as I mentioned on my moving on, facing your fears blog post - it's how you deal with the situation that defines you. I could have sat and cried about my teeth/hair/everything else that's wrong (it's okay to cry and I did cry sometimes, okay I cried a lot) but, instead, I just went and did something about it/in time, learnt that it's okay not to be perfect - define perfect anyway? It just goes to show that little things can make a big difference, e.g., talking about beauty taboos so that they're not taboo anymore - if you want to go and get a nose job because you really feel unconfident, go and get one, if you need to get dentures/get a spot burnt off/wear hair extensions - do it. It really is nothing to do with anyone else. It took me a long time to get to the stage in my life where I feel like I can just do what I want to do, for myself but trust me, it feels good to just not care what people think anymore, one of my favourite quotes is 'you can be the ripest, juiciest peach in the world, and there's still going to be somebody who hates peaches.' Me and my friend were actually discussing this the other day and saying, you really have just got to learn to love yourself first in life.

I always try to put things into perspective, even though it can be difficult at times, life really could be way worse which is why I think it's important to see positivity in each day; you woke up and got out of bed this morning, that's an achievement in itself. People would do anything to be fit and well. So there we have it, I hope you liked the video (do watch it otherwise none of this post will make sense haha) and I'd love to know if you think there are any beauty taboos that shouldn't be taboos (why should it be so wrong to discuss fake teeth, periods, boob jobs etc?!) it shouldn't!

A big thanks to Fixodent for inviting me to take part in this campaign and raise awareness of beauty taboos and they actually came to the aid of the cute lion in the video and paid for him to get his teeth fixed which is so so nice. You can find out more below;

What did you think to this campaign/video? Do you think these things should be beauty taboos? Have you ever felt really unconfident about anything like this?

*This is sponsored by Fixodent but as always it is 100% my honest opinion.

Lots of love, Em x
