Who are Ninja and why is everyone talking about them?

Before we get into the ice cream magic, let’s chat quickly about Ninja as a brand. They’re part of SharkNinja, a US-based company that’s absolutely blown up in the UK over the past few years. You’ve probably heard of their multi-cookersair fryers, and blenders, they’ve become cult kitchen essentials.

What sets Ninja apart is their ability to design smart, powerful appliances that are actually easy to use (and look cute on your counter too). They don’t just follow trends, they create them. The Ninja Creami is a perfect example of that.

What is the Ninja Creami?

I get asked this so much on Instagram! The Ninja Creami is a frozen dessert maker that transforms everyday ingredients into creamy, dreamy treats like:

  • Ice cream (classic, vegan or protein-rich)

  • Gelato

  • Sorbet

  • Frozen yoghurt

  • Milkshakes

  • Smoothie bowls (yes, thick, spoonable ones!)

How does the Ninja Creami work?

It works differently to traditional ice cream makers. Instead of churning the mixture as it freezes, you freeze your base in advance (usually overnight) in one of the Creami’s tubs, then insert it into the machine the next day and let it 'creamify' your mix. The Creami uses a spinning, shaving blade to break down the frozen block into that lush, soft-serve texture.

Do you have to freeze food overnight to use the Creami?

Yes, this is something to note. You do need to plan ahead and freeze your base in one of the Creami tubs for 24 hours before spinning. But honestly, once you get into a rhythm, it becomes second nature. I just prep a few tubs at the start of the week so there’s always something ready to go.

How long does it take to make ice cream with the Ninja Creami?

Once your tub is frozen, it takes about 2–5 minutes to spin a full dessert, depending on what you’re making. It’s super fast. And if the texture isn’t quite right the first time (sometimes it’s a little crumbly), you can just hit the 'Re-Spin' button and it comes out even smoother.

What ingredients can you use in the Ninja Creami?

This is where it gets fun. The Creami is incredibly versatile and I’ve made everything from protein packed chocolate ice cream with cottage cheese (yes really), to fruity sorbets, to indulgent cookie dough gelato. You can keep it super healthy or go full dessert mode.

Here are a few base ideas I love:

  • High-protein: Greek yoghurt + protein powder of choice + sweetener (I like honey or agave)

  • Vegan: Coconut milk + fruit + maple syrup

  • Low-sugar: Skimmed milk + sugar-free pudding mix + stevia

  • Classic: Double cream + condensed milk + vanilla or chocolate or strawberries

It’s great if you’re into macros, clean eating, or just want to know exactly what’s in your dessert.

Is the Ninja Creami healthy?

It can be if you want it to be, that’s one of the biggest perks. Unlike supermarket ice cream that’s loaded with additives and sugars, you’re in control. I love that I can make high-protein, low-sugar, or dairy-free versions depending on what I fancy. It’s especially good if you’re following a specific type of eating.

Is the Ninja Creami noisy?

Yes, I cannot lie, it's a little loud when it’s spinning,  think NutriBullet or blender level  but only for a few minutes, and it’s totally worth it. It’s not something you’d want to run while people are asleep though and in my case I make sure that the dog is out of the house because if she hears it she takes cover!

Can you refreeze leftovers from the Creami?

Technically yes, but I find it best to enjoy it fresh after spinning. If you have leftovers, just smooth them down and refreeze. You’ll probably need to re-spin them before eating again for the best texture.

How much does the Ninja Creami cost?

As of now, the Ninja Creami retails for around £199.99 in the UK for the standard model, and up to £249.99 for the Deluxe version, which has extra functions and larger tubs.

It’s not the cheapest kitchen gadget, but in my opinion it’s so worth it if you love frozen treats or want a healthier alternative to supermarket ice cream.  Just add up the number of ice creams, smoothies and in the long run it will be good value.  I also love that I'm in control of what's going in to it, that makes it priceless in my view.

Where can you buy the Ninja Creami in the UK?

You can buy it from amongst others:

Pro tip: Keep an eye out for bundle deals with extra tubs they're handy when batch prepping.

Is the Ninja Creami easy to clean?

Super easy! I don't say that lightly because I detest cleaning things like this.  The tubs, paddles and lids are all dishwasher safe, or you can rinse them with warm soapy water. The main machine just needs a wipe-down. So much less mess than traditional ice cream makers.

Can children use the Ninja Creami?

The machine itself is best handled by an adult (because of the sharp blade and spinning mechanism), but kids love getting involved with choosing flavours, mix-ins, and toppings.

Is the Ninja Creami better than an ice cream maker?

Honestly, yes, for most people. Traditional ice cream makers are bulky, require constant churning, and often need a special pre-frozen bowl. The Creami lets you freeze in advance and spin on demand. Plus, the textures it creates are incredible. It feels more innovative and customisable.

Should I buy the Ninja Creami?

If you’re a dessert lover, want more control over your ingredients, or just enjoy experimenting in the kitchen absolutely yes. I didn’t expect to fall for it quite as hard as I have, but it’s become a go to in my kitchen. I use it multiple times a week and love trying new flavours (mint choc chip and cherry cheesecake are current faves!).

The Ninja Creami takes everything people love about Ninja, smart design, versatility, ease of use, and turns it into the most delicious experience. Whether you’re health conscious, a foodie, or just obsessed with ice cream, this gadget is one of the best things you can add to your kitchen. I was scared the Ninja Creami would be hard to set up but it's SO easy!

Lots of love, Em x
