Boots Modern Chemistry

What is the Boots Modern Chemistry Range?

Boots Modern Chemistry is a modern, science-led skincare collection designed to deliver proven results without the fuss. The range combines cutting edge ingredients with minimalist, pharmacy style packaging which is a vibe I'm loving at the moment. It's all about effective, targeted skincare with ingredients that work. Think niacinamidevitamin Csalicylic acid, you name it, it’s in there.

What I personally love is how easy it is to mix and match the products depending on your skin concerns, whether it’s breakouts, dullness, or dehydration. Each product is clearly labelled with what it does, and the best part? The entire line is super budget-friendly, with prices starting from just £6.

Who makes Boots Modern Chemistry?

Before I get in to the detail, let me talk a little bit more about Boots as a brand. Founded in Nottingham in 1849, Boots began as a small herbal remedy store and grew into one of the UK’s most trusted pharmacy led health and beauty retailers.  I think we've all popped into a Boots branch on our lunch break or panic bought dry shampoo before a night out.  Is there actually anyone who has never been in to Boots?

Over the years, Boots has launched some incredible own brand ranges (you’ve probably heard me rave about No7 before), and Modern Chemistry is their latest innovation and I can report and tell you it feels ultra modern, ingredient focused, and seriously chic for the price point.

Is Boots Modern Chemistry suitable for all skin types?

Yes, Boots Modern Chemistry is designed for all skin types, is generally considered suitable for all skin types with a focus on restoring the skin barrier and addressing specific concerns like uneven skin tone and redness. As with any products though it is always worth doing a skin patch test before using fully.

There are 2 elements to the range:

The Restore Range: This is designed to intensely hydrate and soothe skin with ingredients like 2% Niacinamide, 2% Rice Extract, and 4% Squalene.  These ingredients are known for their skin brightening, moisturising and smoothing properties.

The Glow Range: This range focuses on boosting luminosity and improving the appearance of dark spots and pigmentation.  The 10% vitamin C serum in this range is formulated to help with uneven skin tone and is also described as gentle and suitable for all skin tones.G

What products are in the Boots Modern Chemistry Range?

The line includes targeted serumscleansersmoisturisers, and exfoliators. I’ve been trialling a few over the past month, and here’s what’s impressed me:

1. Boots Modern Chemistry Vitamin C /  Niacinamide Moisturiser - £15

A glow-boosting moisturiser that feels rich but sinks in effortlessly. It contains Vitamin C to brighten and Niacinamide to even tone, making it great for dull, tired or uneven skin. I’ve been using this in the morning—it gives a hydrated, radiant base for makeup. Suitable for all skin types, especially if you’re targeting pigmentation or dullness.

2. Boots Modern Chemistry Magnesium Glycenate Capsules - £10

love that Boots has included a wellness element in this range. These Magnesium Glycinate capsules are designed to support better sleep, reduced anxiety, and muscle recovery. I’ve been taking them in the evening with a cup of herbal tea, and they’ve helped me feel more settled at night. This is ideal if you struggle with restlessness or want a supplement to support a busy, active lifestyle.

3. Boots Modern Chemistry Glow 10% Vitamin C Serum – £13

This one is a must if you want brighter skin without irritation. It contains 10% Vitamin C, which is enough to give results without being overpowering. I found this really helped revive my skin tone during those dull skin days (especially after travel or a stressful week). Great for all skin types, even sensitive, because it’s formulated with a stable form of Vitamin C.

4. Boots Modern Chemistry Restore Cleansing Balm – £15.00

A dreamy, buttery cleansing balm that melts away makeup and sunscreen without stripping the skin. It’s fragrance-free and packed with nourishing oils, so it leaves your skin soft and soothed. This is perfect as a first cleanse and ideal for dry, combination, or sensitive skin—though I think even oily skin types would love how balanced it leaves you.

5. Boots Vitamin C / Caffeine Eye Cream - £13.00

I’ve been using this as my go-to morning eye cream. The Caffeine helps reduce puffiness, and the Vitamin C brightens the under-eye area. It’s lightweight but still hydrating, and sits beautifully under concealer. A great pick-me-up for tired eyes—especially if, like me, you burn the candle at both ends!

How does Boots Modern Chemistry compare to brands like The Ordinary or CeraVe?

I’d say Boots Modern Chemistry sits somewhere in between the two:

  • Like The Ordinary, it’s ingredient-focused, affordable, and transparent.

  • Like CeraVe, it’s gentle, no-nonsense, and great for barrier health.

Additionally, the packaging is clear, the language is plain, and the pricing is genuinely impressive.

Where can I buy Boots Modern Chemistry?

You’ll find the full range on the Boots website and in selected stores. It’s often part of Boots' 3 for 2 promotions, so it’s worth stocking up when you spot an offer.

Final thoughts: Is Boots Modern Chemistry worth it?

I love that it brings high-performance skincare to everyone, no matter your budget. Years ago, high quality skincare came at a premium and I love that it's more accessible to us all now.  It feels intelligent, current, and clean without being clinical. As someone who has tested hundreds of products over the years (the skincare graveyard under my sink is real), I can confidently say this range holds its own, even compared to products five times the price.

If you’re looking to simplify your skincare, target specific concerns, or build a routine that actually works, the Boots Modern Chemistry range is well worth a try.

Lots of love, Em x
