As much as I love my Real Techniques brushes, they've seen better days, I feel like they're getting pretty old and tatty now so it was the most incredible surprise when a parcel from The Body Shop containing their ultimate brush collection, landed at my door (thank you so much). Lets see how I got on re-visiting a child-hood favourite...
The first make up brushes I ever used were from The Body Shop and I was absolutely distraught when I lost my large powder brush - how on earth I managed to lose it is beyond me but I did and it was a distinctly distressing moment for me frantically trying to find it. The large powder brush (body and face brush) was always my holy grail brush, I re-bought the brush but it just didn't work the same, it didn't feel the same at all for some reason but I find that The Body Shop make up brushes work at their best when they've been worn in a little bit, I was too heart broken after losing the first one that my Mum bought me so I kind of gave up. My make up artist friend told me that you should always wash your new brushes before you start to use them so with these, I did just that.
The brushes are so sleek and sexy. Can a make up brush be sexy? certainly After losing my Body Shop make up brush, I moved onto MAC make up brushes, which cost me around £30 per brush, the brushes were good but it annoyed me that the logo always rubs off and they just look dirty and really well used after only a few months - these aren't the same kind of material so this doesn't rub off and they don't go manky really quickly, in fact, I still have my Body Shop foundation brush after about 3 years in my draw and it still looks brand new.
Inside, you get 8 brushes (so a full set), the face and body brush (personal favourite), the blusher brush, foundation brush, blender brush, eye shadow brush, slanted brush, lipstick/concealer brush (another fave) and lash brush and comb.
My favourite brush, as mentioned, is the large face and body brush and the lip/concealer brush. I mentioned on my February wishlist that I was looking at buying a Real Techniques concealer brush but I don't need to now I have this one and this one really does do the job right.
These brushes are really fluffy and soft, they're so nice to use and feel really silky and high-end. I actually feel like they're better quality than Real Techniques, even though I do love Real Techniques (read my Real Techniques review here) they went grubby very easily and even after washing them all the time, they'd go manky again within a day, but I guess that's just because I have had them for a long time and they were only cheap, so I can't expect them to last me forever. I know many of my friends swear by Body Shop for make up brushes and always have done. I have never found that brushes from The Body Shop shed whatsoever, when actually, my MAC foundation brush used to shed and leave hairs all over my face and it was over double the price. I think that Body Shop brushes get better with age, the more you wear them in, the better they work so I would highly recommend 'breaking' them in first.
If you're gonna buy a brush from The Body Shop, you may as well get a set, I've looked online and you can get their 'essential brush collection' for just £18.00 when it's actually worth £33.00, if you were to buy the face and body brush alone it would cost you £16.00 anyway so you may as well pay £2.00 more for the set. I love the price point of these brushes.
As you can see, the brushes are so silky and smooth. The only brush I'm not too fond of is the foundation brush, simply because I personally don't really like to work with a flat foundation brush, my best friend uses her Body Shop foundation brush though and has done for as long as I can remember so I guess that's just down to personal preference. You can't go wrong with the others though. This set costs just £45 instead of £85 and £2.00 from every sale goes to the Teenage Cancer Trust charity - something which really excites me, I love the fact that The Body Shop are always helping people around them (as well as making us look fabulous at affordable prices). I really do think that The Body Shop's prices have got so much better, as everyone else is raising their prices, Body Shop seem to be lowering theirs.
