Festival fashion: How to look fabulous this year | Guest Post

Even though I'm now free for the Summer, I seem to be so busy with every day life but as promised, I will be letting some bloggers mix my blog up a bit over these Summer months and contribute something a little bit different to my blog. First up is guest blogger Isabelle Franklin. I think this post is very fitting as preparations for Glastonbury kicked off last night. I personally can't wait to see what people have been wearing and how they've been styling their hair for festivals (I love nice festival hair), but here are Isabelle's predictions and her general guidance of what you should be wearing if you're lucky enough to go to a festival this year...

As the UK gears up for another season of muddy fields, music fans and great bands, it could be time to suss out all the latest festival fashion trends. Looking great is all part of the carefree, fun-loving vibe, so here are some of the best designs to watch out for on the high street.

Denim short shorts

The weather is notoriously temperamental in Great Britain, but if the sun does appear, why not be prepared with a pair of denim short shorts? They proved extremely popular at Coachella – the three-day Californian arts and music festival which took place earlier this year – with everyone from Pixie Geldof to Alexa Chung donning a pair. Sure, you might think you need liposuction before whipping out your bare legs, but adding tights or Aztec leggings could boost your confidence.

Furry gilets

TopShop has recently collaborated with hot hippy Kate Bosworth to develop a fabulous new festival fashion range! There are sixteen signature garments in total including a funky pair of buckled boots, but it was the furry gillets that really caught our eye – a piece worn by Bosworth herself while living it up at Coachella. Chic, stylish and wonderfully cool the gillets look great with plain t-shirts, jeans and cowboy boots and perfectly complement the cowgirl style that is also big this year.

 Floral headwear

Flowers represent the innocence of summer and have long been a symbol for love and peace, making them the ideal festival accessory. Oversized, floral headwear can be found all over the high street, but there’s no reason why you can’t make your own using roses, gypsophila, Stem-Tex floral tape and a length of floristry wire. You could even find an old elasticated headband and attach one feature flower to the side for a pretty, retro feel – it’s that simple.

Knee-length fashions

As the rain continues to fall across the UK, there’s a high chance you’ll be covered in mud by the time your festival experience ends. This might explain why so many designers have come up with knee-length fashions that will look just great with a pair of wellington boots. Such fashions include short playsuits, pinafores and bandeau dresses as well as utility dungarees and belted skater skirts. Being practical is as important as looking pretty, but these garments could help you do both!

There’s plenty out there for the festival fashionista, so have a look around and see what you can find!

I hope you liked this guest post, it's always nice to have something different on my blog, especially because it fits in so well with Glasto! Wish I was there. Are you going to any festivals this year? Do you wish you were? What are your favourite festival styles?
