Hello everyone. Sooo I'm really excited to be writing this post, anyone who knows me knows that I absolutely love anything glitz and glam, or anything fashion, beauty and hair related and this little beauty covers them all. That's why, when I saw that one of my favourite hair brands, Mr Charles Worthington, was hosting a competition for one lucky blogger to win the chance to blog from the Red Carpet at the BAFTA's (yep, the BAFTA's) oh my god. I could not resist entering. The brief was simple; 'To enter, tweet us @CWHairLondon, the link to a blog post, or a YouTube video you have created, letting us know why you want to be our Charles Worthington red-carpet blogger!' But me being me, I decided to create my own red carpet themed video, please watch my entry below:
I honestly always have wanted to go to a Red Carpet ceremony, isn't that something that every young girl dreams of? And probably most grown up girls dream of it too. I can't even begin to imagine what a Red Carpet ceremony is like, the atmosphere must just be incredible and i'm pretty sure it would make me speechless, and nothing ever makes me speechless. To even have the opportunity to enter this competition, particularly when it's based around hair, just excited me so much and has made me so happy. I have a long list of goals for 2013 and winning this would just top every goal that i've ever dreamt of achieving. I'm going to talk you through my hair styles that I used on my video entry so that you can see the look that I was going for and also also give you a cheeky behind the scenes look at the making of this video and explain the concept behind it.
Look number one, straight hair:
In the video, I wanted to portray how new the situation of 'walking on a red carpet' was to me, that's why for the first look, I just had straight hair and I was quite unprepared, walking a bit wonkily, kind of like - wow this is crazy. I was wearing a mismatch outfit of Ugg boots and a maxi skirt to show what an amateur I am when it comes to the Red Carpet. My hair is just a simple straight style which can be achieved by blow drying the hair and then simply using straighteners. You can buy products which make this look easier and increase the smoothness/manageability of the hair such as the various frizz fighting and hair smoothing products that brands like Charles Worthington offer their customers. As I found my feet on the Red Carpet in the video, I first chose to wear a bright maxi dress. I decided to go for this because it probably would never be seen on a Red Carpet. It's a daring look but I wanted this to be different and unique, but again, to show that I'm an amateur when it comes to Red Carpets. I also really wanted my hair to stand out and that's why I decided to just chill with the outfits and have fun whilst creating this video.
Look number 2, hair clipped up.
This isn't a look that I would have ever gone for, but I chose to style my hair this way because the vibrant dress which I chose is shoulder-less, I think when wearing a dress like this you can style your hair to your advantage and show off your shoulder and therefore, the detail of the dress. But, I actually really love my hair on this part of the video. I also think this is quite a red carpet look because of the floatyness and the sophisticated look that the dress creates but also, I think that the 'up do' is a really classy look. For me, each look in the video gets more 'red carpetty' as the video continues, apart from the obvious onesie shot at the end, which were used to portray me showing that the red carpet is a fun and unique experience and something that I want to get my hands on. I literally just clipped my hair up for this look and straightened the fringe, it's such an easy look to create and you can really play around with it, it doesn't matter at all if it's messy either which is nice. Of course, on a Red Carpet this dress wouldn't be worn with Ugg boots, but I think that makes the video more fun. I was again, trying to portray that even the snow wouldn't stop me going to the BAFTA's, I would do anything for this.
Look number 3: Curly hair.
This is easily my favourite look. I've always thought that curls suit me better than any other hair style as they're so playful and I don't really like the shape of my face so curls aren't too harsh for me I suppose. This is my favourite 'red carpet look' and because of this, I decided to choose one of my favourite long black dresses but then to make it a bit daring, I painted my lips with bright pink lipstick so that my hair and lipstick both stood out against the dress. I think that my hair stands out really well against the black dress, if you watch the video you can see how lovely these curls really are. My hair was created using a curling wand, I love curling wands because you really can go as curly as you want with it, or if you prefer, you can just leave it wavy and run your fingers through it. I'm such a sucker for curly hair, it's my favourite pretty and sophisticated look.
Now I did shoot this video actually like I was on a catwalk, so for this reason, I decided that I should end it with a cute shot with my hair quickly tied up as of course, I didn't have hours to style my hair. I put earmuffs on with the onesie in order to show that yes headgear is allowed on my Red Carpet and so is sleepwear, you don't have to look glam when you've got nice hair. It's all about the hair, not about the outfits with my unique catwalk. I think by choosing such mismatch outfits in the snow, I was able to make the video into more of a 'hair catwalk' instead of something which centres on the latest trends. Again, I just think that this shows that I would do anything to go to the BAFTA's, even if it meant not having an outfit. The outfit is the last thing I would worry about, of course, hair comes first when Charles Worthington is involved. As long as the hair looks good, the outfit will look good no matter what it is.
This catwalk/Red Carpet video really isn't about 'me' prancing around in loads of outfits, the underlying message is, I would do anything to be at the BAFTA awards. I felt that by making this video, I could prove to everyone just how much effort I would put into being there, even if it did mean making myself ill by standing in skimpy clothing in the snow. I honestly do believe that I am deserving of this, it would honestly mean the world to me. However, I do believe that I am quite a humble person and I'm definitely not someone who ever pats myself on the back, but I am so proud of what I've achieved so far with my little blog in less than a year, and I think that I owe it to my readers to report on this incredible and once in a life time event. I feel like this could be a turning point for my blog and for my readers and as Charles Worthington's website itself says, this opportunity would help to: 'start your beauty blogging career in ultimate style!' No words can express how much I want this, the reason I am studying Broadcast Journalism at University is to enable me to take my blog to the next level and this opportunity would enable that. I was lucky enough to win the Samsung Global Blogger competition out of 30,000 entrants in summer, which meant that I reported on the Olympic Games all Summer and even interviewed members of team GB. So when it comes to the reporting side of things, I absolutely love to report on events and feel that I must be quite good at it after reporting on the biggest sporting event in the world, that really did raise my confidence when it comes to standing in front of a camera. But something entices me so much about doing this at a Red Carpet event. Whilst reporting on the Olympics was possibly the best opportunity and such a life changing experience, imagine me having the chance to report on something which is fashion and beauty related? My two biggest passions rolled into one? Not to mention that I am a complete media and film geek, I have studied media my entire life and have a genuine passion for the subject. I'm one of those annoying people that analyses every advert and every film. So to be able to report on something which awards those film makers and stars who I idolise, would just be incredible. No words can express how much I want to win this competition, I just hope that my genuine passion for this topic and the fact that I put 150% into everything that I do, will shine through. Thank you so much. You can show your support by using the #CWBaftaReporter hashtag.
