Why I Love Running & Run With Me!

I’m sure you’re all aware by now of just how much I adore running, feeling energised andgoing on adventures. If you read last month’s blog post about the best uses for honey, you’ll know that I talked about my exciting partnership with yoomoo frozen yogurt this year (I may have eaten a tub of Honey n Granola right before I stepped on the plane). At the start of July I’m going to be taking part in my first ever Color Run as yoomoo have partnered with them, and I want to invite you to come along with me and talk about running too!

The Color Run: You can sign up to join in The Color Run here, it’s going to be in Manchester on July 1st and Brighton on September 23rd

I’ll also be there judging a ‘who styled it best’ competition which I’m so excited about! As part of their race packs every Color Runner gets a Color Run T-shirt and I can’t wait to see how you guys can jazz yours up. If you want to take a photo of your outfit at yoomoo’s Color Run stand, or upload photos to social media using the hashtag #yoolook, you’ll be in with the chance of winning a Topshop shopping spree and personal shopper. I’m so jealous of whoever wins.

I’d say I’m pretty simplistic when it comes to work-out wear but The Color Run is all about having fun and enjoying the day so I need to get my thinking cap on and go wild with this. That’s the best thing about The Color Run, it’s fun, different and anything goes! Take a look at some of my ideas below:
  • You really can decorate your T-shirt however you wish.  I’ll probably go for the traditional Britney tie front style with my top, but we shall see, part of me thinks I may chop away with the scissors! As you can see in the photos below, this is the standard T-shirt which I actually LOVE but I may cut into it and crop it for the day.
  • I’m not the neatest person so I’m thinking I will go wild with paint splatters and pretend it’s artistic! You’ll be covered head to toe in coloured powder at the event but why not go colour crazy with extra face paint?
  • Or you could go wild with glitter instead! Apparently people go all out with fun/bright make up and glitter at The Color Run so I’ll definitely be going unicorn on the glitter front! I absolutely adore iridescent glitter and may even pop some in my hair too, fresh blow dry and glitter? This is going to be like no run I’ve ever done. The yoomoo zone will have a makeup artist doing glitter and faceprint on the day for free, so if you need me, that’s where you’ll find me!
Hopefully I’ll get to meet some of you after the run for a yoomoo fro yo lolly or two! (They’re delicious!)

For anyone who is still feeling sceptical about signing up I thought I’d talk about why I love running on this blog post. People either love it or hate it, so here’s my take on it and why I think you should fall in love with running too. Even if you’re new to the sport, The Color Run is only 5k and non-competitive, so it’s a great place to start.
  1. It’s a natural endorphin - exercise releases endorphins, that means, happy chemicals in our brain and that’s probably why I always feel like my stress has been lifted, my mood has been lifted and my mind cleared when I go on a run. It’s like a natural mind clearer. What’s not to love?
  1. It doesn’t matter about your fitness level - whether you’re 12, 80 or 25, running is great because you can stick to your own pace. When did you last run out into the fresh air and just have a nice little jog? Try it!
  1. It keeps you fit and healthy - Running is a great full body work out, it’s great for burning fat, toning up and heart health too.
  1. You can mix it up - If you’re someone that gets bored of the same old exercise, running is great because you can totally mix it up. Some days I’ll do hill sprints, other days I’ll jog, other days I’ll do a long distance run. It’s really great to be able to mix it up.
  1. You don’t have to take it too seriously - I love running because you can completely lose yourself in it, you don’t have to take it too seriously and can choose what works for you, do you prefer city centre running? Countryside? Treadmill? It’s tailored to your tastes.
  1. You can set a goal - If you are wanting to take running seriously, I find it’s a really great way to set a goal. You can train yourself up and then try and beat your distance run per time. It’s something that keeps me on track, monitoring my fitness levels and feeling a sense of achievement every time I run further in a shorter length of time.

My dream run? When I lived in Canada I’d run up the mountain behind my apartment a few times a week, it never felt like exercise, it felt like the most therapeutic adventure every single time. I love finding a new route, running somewhere different and exploring along the way, the bonus? I’m exercising whilst I’m at it! I do find running way more fun with a running buddy though.

Do you like running? Have you ever done a color run?
