The Best Skincare For Flights And Traveling

Hello hello hello! Get ready for quite a lot of travel content this month, it’s June which pretty much means Summer is here or, people are planning for their Summer holidays at least. I mean, in the UK as I write this, it's raining (far too much) so hopefully this will at least make you feel a little more like jumping on a plane to the sunshine. As you read this, I’m about to get on a flight to San Fransisco and I couldn’t resist writing a blog post with my travel tips and beauty products seen as I've spent the last week packing them all together. After the success of my long haul flight tips and top long haul travel beauty items blog post, I thought I’d do something similar but all about my in flight, travel beauty must haves and I've thrown a few flying tips in if you're a nervous flyer...

Top tips:

I’ve caught over 30 flights so far this year and we’re only half way through (crazy to think we’re half way through the year, click here to read about all my travels). I wouldn’t say I love flying, but I do love being adventurous and getting to explore new destinations. I love seeing new things, exploring and enjoying new places and flying is definitely the best way to go about getting to those places. I know a lot of people are scared of flying which is why I thought I’d start with putting some top flying tips below for those of you who are a little apprehensive about flying.

Scared of flying? Firstly, I was once told there are more car accidents than plane accidents, apparently you’re more likely to be struck by lightning than be injured on a plane (not sure how true it is, but it certainly makes me feel safer!). The key for me with flying is distraction, if I think about how weird it is to be in the air for 15 hours, it freaks me out a little ‘how does it stay up' ‘what happens if an engine falls’ etc etc, it drives me insane so I either sleep, pamper, watch films or read. It’s about getting engrossed in something else so you actually enjoy the flight rather than freaking out about it.

Choose the right flight: First things first, choosing the right flight. Everyone has different needs, whether its cost saving, newness, speed etc. I’m a bit in the middle, I want to cost save (some flight companies charge thousands and thousands when a quick Google flight check brings up a way cheaper flight) but at the same time, often cheaper flights mean you have to do more changes or end up waiting around during long layovers in the middle of the night. I remember reading a nightmare story of someone who travelled for the first time to Asia by herself and ended up doing a 30 hour flight in order to cost save, she lost her bags on the way as there were so many changes and ever since, I’ve been really cautious. I don’t mind doing one change per flight (e.g., if you’re flying to Vietnam you’ll most likely stop off in Malaysia for a few hours) but some really cheap flights take ages and give you loads of stops. Try and take the stress, hassle and pressure off by choosing a flight that's as direct as it can be but obviously not the most expensive (depending on your budget).

My favourite company to fly with at the moment are Norwegian, I’m sure you remember me raving about them from my recent trip to Florida. This will be my second trip flying premium with them and I honestly cannot recommend them enough. I’ve never had such a roomy, comfortable flight. Imagine a smooth, quick-check in (I can't believe how quickly you get through the airport with premium check in and security), 2x suitcases per person, a lounge full of free brownies and more leg room than you know what to do with. I flew premium with Norwegian to Florida and couldn’t resist doing the same to San Fran, they fly to Oakland which is super easy to get straight into the centre of San Fran to and actually, apparently Oakland is well worth exploring too. They’re known as a low cost airline for long haul flights but their flights are direct, on the most modern planes (Dreamliners are one of the best, so technologically advanced) I find everything about them luxurious. I definitely wouldn't call them 'budget', the only affordable thing about them is their flight routes, you get quality service at the best prices. The service is epic and they even give you a menu on a screen right in front of you so you can order as many drinks as you like, right from your seat with a little swipe. This isn’t sponsored by the way, I just had such a good experience and everyone I speak to now I tell them to fly Norwegian. They’ve set the bar so incredibly high and proven that you can have affordable long haul flights on a brand new aircraft with awesome service, high quality food and serious comfort. Bring on todays flight!

Sleep mask - Make sure you pack a cotton/satin sleep mask to pull over your eyes, particularly if you’re a light sleeper. I have so many and it means you’ll be able to sleep better, I find so anyway. I pop it on and then even if I can’t sleep it almost helps me drift off without worrying about people watching me sleep!

Headphones - Headphones are key, they do bring them to you on a flight but I find certain headphones really hurt my ears after a long time so I recommend investing in some comfortable over the head ear phones. I love my Sony ones, my Philips ones and my Dre Beats (plus they're rose gold!!!!) Unfortunately Apple ones just hurt my ears, I prefer over the ear ones!

Magazines/Laptop/Book - Take whatever material you may need to keep you occupied, whether its magazines, I love flicking through magazines on a flight, your laptop to do work or a book. Theres something special about browsing for new books in a bookstore in the airport, I get so excited.

hydrating face sprays

Sprays: A few of my favourite products to throw in my bag and hydrate throughout my flight or travels are, Clinique Moisture Surge Face Spray, Kiehls Cactus Flower Tibetan Ginseng Hydrating MistElizabeth Arden Eight Hour Miracle MistYou can't go wrong with any of these, you literally just spritz over make up, without make up or whatever you fancy and it instantly rejuvenates, refreshes and hydrates the skin.

For the eyes: Now onto travel beauty. I’m a serious lover of anything to do with my undereyes, particularly on a flight when I’m exhausted and just need to make myself look more awake and bright-eyed. Warning, I love a lot of eye products and you can see my favourites below. Under-eye care is basically my favourite on a flight or when travelling as I never get enough sleep!

Guerlain Super Aqua-Eye Anti-Puffiness Smoothing Eye Patch, optimum hydration and strengthening - Guerlain has long been one of my top brands and I had no idea they did eye patches. In true Guerlain style, the packing is divine and the product is awesome. They make the undereyes feel soft, smoothed and hydrated. Say goodbye to puffy eyes with this product.

Elemis Pro-Collagen Hydra-Gel Eye Masks - Elemis are one of the top skincare brands and their hydra-gel eye masks only recently came into my life. It’s safe to say, they don’t disappoint, If you’re into your skincare ingredients check these out as they’re filled with goodness to keep your under-eyes looking plump. They make my under eyes feel so cool.

Nugg Eye Patches - Nugg is a new brand I recently discovered and I love their eye patches because they’re tiny, perfect for traveling but super powerful. They're also really affordable too.

Rodial Dragons Blood Eye Masks -
Another great brand is Rodial. They're known for amazing skincare and I often use their Dragons Blood Eye Masks whilst I’m sat in the bath to rejuvenate myself. I wouldn't say these are hydrating, for me they just give me a shot of energy under my eyes. These are perfect pre-night out too.

Skyn Iceland Hydro Cool Firming Eye Gels - They do exactly what they say, cool the eye area whilst firming. I’m sure you’re all sick of me talking about these, a brand I love way too much when it comes to travel, Skyn Iceland. I see them as the ultimate skin hangover cure, cooling my undereyes and leaving them so firm. I find these work well if they’re cool, so if you use them the morning you land, pop them in a fridge first and put them on before you head out for they, thank me later. The best thing? You just peel and stick them on, read your magazines and then when you're ready, say hello to a soft, cooled under-eye area.

Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair - Great to use before you go to sleep on the flight, this is a seriously powerful product. It's definitely one of the best out there as it's targeted with the top ingredients to rejuvenate the undereyes.

Clinique Pep-Start - A great handbag essential and another one I rave about all too often, this is good because you can pop it on over your make up, or use it as skincare too. It’s [packed full of vitamins to instantly awaken and give you that bright eyed bushy tailed look. Perfect if you’re after more of an eye cream than a cooling eye gel. Read my full review of Clinique Pep-Start.

For The Face: I’m known for doing my skincare whilst on the flight. Favourite face masks include,
Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask - I sleep with this on the flight and my skin drinks it right up!  L’Occitane Overnight Perfecting Mask - this is amazing because it's only £5 and just slots in your handbag. Nugg Face Mask Exfoliating - another great miniature, I love this for exfoliating whilst away! FACEINC by Nails Inc Instant Detox and FACEINC by Nails Inc Night Night - I'm loving Nails Inc's face masks and also sheet masks, they do a range of them but my favourites are the hydrating ones.

Don't forget your sunglasses, I love Sunglass Hut or I buy my sunglasses from World Duty Free and also, mini fragrance! I take my travel sized Jo Malone everywhere with me. You can have an amazing free little pamper in any World Duty Free, including La Mer facials and more. I highly recommend popping in and doing that if you've got the time! It hydrates me perfectly before my flight and the Jo Malone hand massages are so relaxing!

Do you like any certain beauty products for travel? Do you like long haul flights? Do you have any flight tips?
Lots of love, Em x
