I absolutely love Mother’s Day, give me any excuse to spoil my Mum. I’m extremely lucky to have such a supportive Mum and I definitely believe that Mothers day is everyday. In our busy lives though, we often forget to stop and tell those close to us just how much we love them. Whether you look up to your Mum or someone else as a mother figure, I think it’s important to spend time and show that person how much they mean to you, as life really is too short. However, there’s no better way to spoil her that on Mothers day itself too. My Mum has always been someone who loves home-made and personalised gifts, so today I want to give you some lovely ideas for mothers day gifts and also, some different mother’s day ideas too.
Beauty - First up, beauty gifts. My Mum works so hard and I know she loves nothing more than having a pamper, when she can find the time to do that! Whether that’s covering her body in her favourite bath products, treating herself to a spritz of her favourite perfume every day (my Mum adores Si by Armani), or getting The Body Shop body butter out, it’s the little luxuries in life that make you feel super pampered. This year I think the L’Oreal Paris Age Perfect Mothers Day set is epic, it contains full sized products of the Age Perfect Cleansing Milk, Age Perfect Face, Neck & Décolleté Lotion SPF 15 and Age Perfect Re-Hydrating Night Cream but only costs £15 for the set. The contents are worth over £30.00 so this really is a bargain. Mothers day doesn’t have to be expensive, it really is the thought that counts. Get it online here.
Experience - I think an experience on Mother's day is always a lovely idea, whether you’re taking her out for afternoon tea, a hot air balloon ride or a spa day. I absolutely love the idea of treating Mum to an experience day. I took my Mum shopping at Trinity Leeds for an early Mother's Day treat, that's always a good idea! Top tip: just don’t book it for Mothers day weekend as the prices are inflated!
Trip away - Much like experiences, there’s nothing better than a trip away. Whether you send her and yourself somewhere, or your Mum and her loved one. I know my Mum seriously needs to relax and I’d love to pay for her to head somewhere lovely in Europe for a completely relaxed weekend. I highly recommend Barcelona!
Flowers - Never underestimate how much Mums love flowers, or my Mum does anyway. My Mum always says she’s the happiest with a large bouquet of flowers so I love surprising her with them. Whilst expensive flowers are divine (Selfridges flowers blow me away) I always find that flowers are always really cheap but beautiful in supermarkets, I always stop via my local shops to grab some fresh flowers. The good news nowadays is that you can get loads of affordable flowers online, I know Moonpig do a free card with flowers so I tend to use them often.
Perfume - As I said, my Mum adores perfume and I don’t think you can go wrong with a fragrance for Mothers day. My Mum fell in love with a Guess fragrance years ago and the only thing she’s found similar is Si by Armani. I know she loves spraying it every single day and worries it will run out so I always like to keep her topped up with her favourite. It's her daily dose of luxury.
Food - My brother and I tend to put my Mum a lovely food hamper together once a year, we usually fill it with things from the Harvey Nichols or Selfridges foodhall and it makes the most gorgeous hamper. I also adore Fortnums. We fill it with teas, (she loves teapigs), luxury biscuits, jams and more. It keeps her going and it makes such a luxurious and different gift, if you don't want to spend a fortune, you could always go to a premium supermarket like Waitrose, John Lewis or Marks and Spencer and grab all her favourite biscuits, chocolates, a bottle of wine and put it in a home-made hamper. My Mum adores Hotel Chocolat, they really do the best chocolate gifts out of most places I've come across. I always add a little gift bag and grab her so many delicious treats. You can order everything online food-wise nowadays too making it much easier.
Something She Really Loves - Is there a little luxury she adores? For example, my Mum loves getting her hair blow dried so booking her in for a blow dry or getting her a voucher to see her hair dresser at Sasoon would be a lovely treat. She also adores Betty's in Harrogate for afternoon tea, that would make a really special treat. For my Mum, she likes getting the family together so a lovely lunch or dinner really does mean a lot. It's all about spending quality time with your loved ones.
Personalisation - I think personalised gifts make the best gifts. I use Moonpig on a monthly basis to send cards to people and always love them for Mothers day too. The reaction you get is always amazing when you take an extra few minutes to send a Moonpig card. You just cannot beat a photo card. Maybe take it to the next level and make your Mum a photobook this year of all your memories? You could also put together a little jar of all your memories or happy thoughts throughout the year for her to look back on.
Clean The House - If your Mum is constantly busy, why not surprise her by cleansing the house one day when she’s out? Fill it with fresh flowers and get some dinner in for her!
So there we have it, a few ideas this Mothers day! I think what really matters is spending time with your loved one, whether it’s your mother figure, your grandma or your dad this mothers day, whoever is your mother figure.
What do you do on Mothers Day? Do you like any of my gift ideas?
