Oulton Hall Hotel And Spa Review; A British Weekend Away

I love nothing more than staying in nice hotels, it's honestly one of my favourite hobbies. Put that with a nice spa break and my day is made. I've been craving a spa trip for a long time as I've been so busy and haven't really stopped recently so I decided to go to Oulton Hall right before my China trip (I'm aware this post is just a little overdue, so sorry). Oulton Hall is in Yorkshire so not too far from home. You don't have to go miles away to have a break, it's sometimes nice to just stay in a lovely hotel in the UK. I've visited before just for a little spa day but I was excited to have an overnight stay. I've heard either really good things about Oulton Hall or bad things so I was quite nervous to see how the weekend would pan out...

Check in was smooth and I was extremely impressed with the bedroom, I really wasn't expecting it to be so nice. t love plush, traditional bedrooms and this is exactly what this was. I needed a nice stay in a lovely hotel and the actual hotel itself was beautiful. You can't beat a traditional style British manor house.

I arrived in my new leather jacket and my trusty skinny black ripped jeans but soon grabbed my gym kit and got ready to enjoy some relaxation.

I took my new trusty Aspinal bag out with me too.

We packed our bags with our gym kit and headed downstairs to the champagne bar for lunch. The champagne bar is easily my favourite location in Oulton Hall, with beautiful views, incredible decor and delicious food. The service was incredible too, last time I ate here the service was slow but this time I couldn't fault it.

Minimal make up (that's what spa days are all about!), I sipped on my green tea (my top is from the new Lipsy Michelle Keegan range).

and I wasn't too hungry so I just nibbled on some bread and vegetables. All that was missing was some olives!

Matt went for the steak ciabatta which he said was incredible.

After we'd eaten, we headed down to the spa which was conveniently located just down the corridor from our hotel room. We were greeted and sat down, handed our towels and dressing gowns and then we got ready for a gym session. The gym inside Oulton Hall is really good, it has everything you need to have an incredible work out, including a room with a TRX (my fave ab thing) and a punch bag! After this, we headed to the pool area, the pool is pretty small but it's more than adequate. We made use of the sauna and steam room which were really good and then headed to the treatment rooms for our massages. Unfortunately I couldn't take photos as obviously people were in bikinis. I love having massages and opted for a 25 minute back massage, I got into the room at 3.35 and was finished by 3.45, I was a little disappointed when I checked the time as my massage definitely wasn't long enough, Matt felt the same. Nevertheless, we felt relaxed and headed back into the pool.

Feeling refreshed after a lovely, relaxing day, we headed down to dinner. I'd heard mixed reviews of the Calvery Grill but after a long day of swimming and working out, I was ready for some food. My dress is online here and my shoes online here

The Calvery Gril was beautiful, I starting my evenings with champagne.

I was slightly disappointed by the food, I put it down to the fact that I'm a bit of a foodie and do really appreciate good food. Food doesn't have to be expensive to be good but this just didn't really blow me away. You basically get a set menu for a certain price (around £26) and have to pay for sides and drinks on top of this. If we didn't pay for sides we'd have been pretty hungry. I had a beetroot and feta salad to start.

Matt had the hamhock

I was really in the mood for roast chicken so was a little bit disappointed when chicken breast landed in front of me

We paid extra for the buttered kale and fries which saved the day really as they were delicious.

My apple crumble tart was lovely.

We headed back to the incredible champagne bar, only to be blown away again, but this time by the cocktails, the service and the mixologist in front of us. The champagne bar in Oulton Hall really is worth a visit.

Breakfast was delicious.

I pampered with some of my favourite products before the day ahead.

Our final day was spent swimming, gymming and strolling around the beautiful grounds. I wore my new jacket, those trusty jeans (you may remember them from this blog post!) my favourite blouse, some super old boots and then obviously took my Aspinal with me again. Told you it's nice!

All in all? The hotel was beautiful, the champagne bar blew me away. I wish we had chance to try the afternoon tea! The rooms were plush, the staff were lovely and the spa was great too. Tiny things were lacking such as not allowing us to use bath robes the following day because we didn't have massages booked but apart from that, I'd highly recommend an over night stay at Oulton Hall. I personally wouldn't bother with the dinner, instead, head to the champagne bar, I loved every moment in there for lunch and after dinner drinks!

Have you ever heard of Oulton Hall? Do you like manor style British hotels? Do you like just staying in hotels near home sometimes?
