Being a huge fan of MUA, I was very intrigued when I found out about the 1D Make up launch, so I had to run down to my local Superdrug yesterday and buy some of their items. The lady did laugh at me at the till but hey, we all have a little bit of a crush on One Direction don't we? (Zayn is my all time favourite). The reason I am telling you about One Direction make up is because well, truthfully, dignity aside, it is actually really quite good. Even for a 19 year old girl.
So lets start with the packaging. The One Direction boys clearly have style. Like most MUA products, the boy's make up collection is no different, it looks sleek and cute. I'm surprised because it doesn't actually look too girlie. I am a huge fan of plain products, I love the Chanel style packaging, simplicity wins for me every time. When I was looking at the MUA stand in Superdrug, One Direction's make up didn't immediately stand out to me, it blended in which was quite nice, it isn't too 'in your face'. One Direction have of course, gone for the bands colours, red and black on some of their items. But obviously they’ve had some great ideas in the board room, as the products don’t actually look tacky, they still look really nice and I wouldn’t be ashamed as a 19 year old girl to have them in my hand bag.
One Direction Lipsticks. Now, I love MUA lipsticks, I would have bought all of these lipsticks as I knew they'd be good as they're made by MUA but at £3.00 each it does add up, so I chose my two favourite colours, a red and a pink. I got 'Moments' by Niall Horan, a nice little neutral pink colour. Whilst the red is by the man himself, Mr Harry Styles. His lipstick is called 'Be Mine.' As a Zayn lover, I would have liked to buy his 'I Wish' lipstick in bright pink, but unfortunately that had sold out. The red lipstick reminds me of my Arbonne red (see here), which I am in love with. This is just a cheaper version, at only £3.00. This makes it a lot more expensive than the standard MUA lipsticks though which are only £1.00 but still, it’s cheaper than most high street lipsticks.
The red is just absolutely beautiful as you can see on the swatches below. It has a nice innocent sheen to it and isn’t too in your face red. It isn’t so red that it makes you look washed out. The pink is the perfect neutral lip. It reminds me of MAC’s crème cup, but with a tiny bit more pink in it. Again, its got a tiny bit of shimmer in it which gives a really nice natural lip look. I am very impressed with One Direction's lipsticks. They literally don't budge either, these lipsticks have very good staying power. It took a lot of wiping to get these swatches off my hand, plus the colours are so intense as you can see. Well done boys.
Next up are One Direction Cheek Tints. These have sparked controversy in the media as they say: 'What Makes You Beautiful' on them. A lot of newspapers and Directioners have picked up on the fact that 1D's most famous lyric says 'don't need make up to cover up'... and now the boys have brought out a make up brand. But anyway, lets not get into that debate, wearing make up is a personal preference and at aged 19, I do wear it so yes, you heard right, the One Direction boys have followed the like of Nars, and brought out some Cheek Tints. The best bit? They're affordable and actually surprisingly good. Rose Riot and Coral Cutie are the shades that I chose. The names are really cute and the colours aren’t too out there, so I suppose if you are young, these are pretty and innocent enough to play around with. I’m loving the subtle sun-kissed look at the moment and Coral Cutie is perfect for creating just that. These colours glide onto your face so easily and do stay put. They give such a gorgeous natural finish and just make you glow, which is what you want this Summer. I’ve always wanted to try a nice cheek tint but a Nars one will set you back at least £20.00. For £3.00, you can’t go wrong. Thanks again boys.
How nice are these colours seriously?!
I wonder if Harry Styles will be giving Taylor Swift some of this make up to wear? they're her kind of colours, very natural, neutral and just pretty (I love Taylor Swift). They blend so easily, you literally need the tiniest bit to really wake up your make up look. I love the little sheen to them, it means you don't have to apply highlighter underneath.
Kiss You Lip Polish is by far my favourite product from 1D's make up collection. I did want Zayn's colour, just because it's Zayn. There I go again, such a consumers dream buying into it just because it says Zayn Malik on it. But I settled for Louis instead and wow, I'm so glad I did. This lip polish is literally incredible, it's my kinda colour; neutral. It's thick enough to be a lipstick and I'd say, is a similar colour to MAC's myth lipstick, just a touch darker. It makes my lips look big because it's so shiny.
I love the colour of this and the packaging is actually quite cool too. I popped it in my bag today and didn't get any strange looks for applying One Direction lipgloss to my lips. This particular one is called 'Louis Loves Vanilla'. It does taste good too. I need to get my hands on Zayn Maliks' 'Zayn Loves Watermelon', I love watermelon too Zayn.
Lots of love, Em x
